The Problem
Current therapy of TBI includes supportive care to keep the patient alive, but brain-oriented therapy is limited to approaches to relieve pressure inside the skull caused by excess fluid build up and swelling in the brain. Furthermore, there are no blood tests to detect, measure and monitor the progression of TBI-associated neurodegenerative, psychological and emotional disorders. Today, brain injury treatment stops at stabilization - keeping patients alive but leaving their brains damaged.
Our Solution
NeuroTheranostics' (NTI) current solution for TBI is an intravenous TBI drug, NTI-101, that promotes self-repair and neuro-regeneration and significantly mitigates the cognitive dysfunction that often becomes documented over years of living with untreated TBI. NTI is also developing an intranasal formulation of NTI-101, as well as a novel blood test, NeuroD, for the chronic stage of TBI that can be used to accurately monitor disease progression and/or treatment efficacy. The successful translation of the nose-to-brain TBI therapy and companion blood test to the clinical care of patients with TBI would have an enormous direct positive impact on function, mental health, wellness, longevity and overall quality of life for the civilian population and military personnel who have suffered from a TBI, as well as a positive impact on the psychological and socioeconomic outcomes of their caregivers and families.
